The Stockade Inn 1 North Church Street Schenectady, New York 12305 Telephone: (518) 346-3400 Facsimile: (518) 346-3393 http://www.stockadeinn.com/ PERFORMER BIOS: Thursday 6/19 - Jack Fragomeni Jazz guitarist Jack Fragomeni has been performing for over 30 years in the Capital Region, New York State and throughout much of the United States with numerous jazz greats including Nick Brignola, Eddie Daniels, Michael Formanek, Lee Konitz, Ralph Lalamma, Steve LaSpina, Lou Marini, Dick Oatts, Valery Ponomarev, Rufus Reid, Lew Soloff, Eliot Zigmund and Attila Zoller. He is a member of the faculty at both the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY and Schenectady County Community College. Friday 6/20 - Colleen Pratt Trio The product of a musical family, Colleen Pratt is the daughter of Helen & Norman Pratt, and the niece of well known jazz man Bobby Pratt, a popular area musician. Colleen often devotes her full, rich vocals to the swing and jazz idioms, although she covers pop, Motown and contemporary ballads as well. Colleen performs with several area bands along with her own group, "Colleen Pratt & Friends", a dynamic four-piece band comprised of Jazz pianist John Nazarenko, bassist Tom Crudo, bassist/guitarist/vocalist Bobbie Van Detta, drummer Bob Halek and saxophonist Cliff Lyons. The band lays down some swinging grooves and serves up some beautiful ballads on her first two CDs, "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "Live at One Caroline". They are much in demand at many area nightspots, as is Colleen as a guest performer with many other popular area bands. She often teams up with jazz pianist Peg Delaney and on many occasions with Doc Scanlon. Colleen is proud to be the current vocalist with the Empire Jazz Orchestra. This 19-piece band is featured on her latest recording, "I Thought About You". http://www.colleenpratt.com Thursday 6/26 - Sonny & Perley The exciting duo of Sonny Daye and Perley Rousseau achieves a rare musical symbiosis. The husband and wife team have spent the last several years developing and perfecting their unique blend of Jazz, Brazilian and International Cabaret which has become their musical signature. They engagingly perform the timeless standards of the Great American Songbook such as Gershwin, Berlin and Porter as well as the irresistible Brazilian melodies of Antonio Carlos Jobim. They keep a busy schedule touring with their trio, quartet or quintet performing for concerts, festivals and cabaret shows. Their three CD releases "Love Dance" 1996, "East of the Sun" 1999, and "Let It Happen" 2004 have generated international air play and received critical acclaim. It is in live performance, however, where Sonny and Perley truly shine. Throughout New York, New England and in Europe, the duo has captivated audiences with their warmth, musical honesty and broad repertoire often sprinkled with spontaneous, charming and humorous banter that only a 20 year marriage can enliven! http://www.sonnyandperley.com Friday 6/27 - Al Haugen Trio Accordionist Al Haugen has been performing for over 40 years in New York, New Jersey, New England and in the Capital Region. In his teens, he was turned on to jazz accordion by a recording of the legendary Art Van Damme Quintet. A successful audition landed Al a 3 year stint on accordion with the United States Military Academy Band at West Point, after which he moved to NY City to gig in the club date scene and serve as music copyist at Radio City Music Hall and various music writing/publishing services. Since relocating to the Capital Region in the !970’s, Al has been active in the music scene. Most recently he has traveled with Van Damme and other jazz accordionists to adjudicate jazz competitions and to perform at festivals in an effort to improve the image of the accordion as more than just an ethnic instrument. Friday 7/4 - Bobby Massaro Duo Bobby Massaro has been a drummer and singer for over 45 years. He has performed thoughout the Northeast with many fine musicians such as Nick Brignola,Leo Russo,Al Quagliari,and with big bands featuring great players such as Joe Lovano, Dick Oates, Chick Esposito, Ted Nash, Gary Smullian, Dave Calarco and John Lockwood just to name a few. He now sings in and out of the Capital District with "Sophfisticated Jazz" featuring Sal Maida on piano and various jazz bassists. Thursday 7/10 - Rich Lamanna Trio with guest Othello Molineaux After graduating the "Berklee College of Music" (1979), Rich joined the Contemporary Orchestra of Peru under Jamie Delgado Aparicio. He has toured South America and the Caribbean with his group and others and has performed and recorded with national artists Alex Acuna, Kenwood Dennard, Othello Molineaux, Ricardo Silviera, locals Chuck D'Aloia, Otto Gardner, Dave Calarco and Dan Dobek. Originally from Long Island, NY Rich spent time in NY City honing his craft and paying his dues, performing and "sitting in" on jam sessions with Kenny Kirkland, Armen Donelian, Ratzo Harris and others. He recently performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival, locally he has appeared at the Lake George Jazz Festival, Lark Fest and the Smooth Jazz Festival. Performing professionally on the saxophone since the age of 12 he has studied sax under Phil Woods, Joe Viola and Andy McGhee. From the time he first listened to John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderly Rich was inspired to create jazz on the saxophone. He has recently has taken up the Steel drum adding the Caribbean flavor of the instrument to his ensemble. He is an original and eclectic jazz artist versed in idioms from bop to latin jazz, scoring rave reviews by anyone who hears his music. http://www.richlamanna.com/ Friday 7/11 - Lee Shaw Trio The Lee Shaw Trio is a contemporary piano trio with bass and drums, drawing mostly on the virtuoso end of Bop language, in standards and original compositions. Lee Shaw was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1993 and has appeared on Marian McPartland's PIANO JAZZ.The Trio has performed at the Freihofer Jazz Festival, Kennedy Center, Northpointe Arts Center, Spencertown Academy,Linda Norris Auditorium,done clinics and concerts at various colleges in NY state and Oklahoma and plays regularly in clubs in NY state and Massachusetts. The Lee Shaw Trio is Lee Shaw (piano), Rich Syracuse (bass) & Jeff Seigel (drums) http://www.leeshaw.org Thursday 7/17 - Jody Shayne Duo Jody Shayne began singing in clubs in Boston, where she attended Berklee College of Music. After spending time on the road, she settled in NYC, where she appeared with many jazz artists, including, Archie Shepp; Howard McGee; Jimmy Garrison; Roswell Rudd, and Sheila Jordan. In addition to numerous club engagements, Shayne has performed in festivals, including The Crystal City Jazz Festival; Jazz at the Lake; The Hamilton Hill Culturfest Series; and A Place for Jazz. Pianist, Paul Mastriani and Shayne released their CD, Love Is a Garden, in 1998. All of the songs are original, with Mastriani as composer, and Shayne as lyricist. She currently resides in the Capital District, where her schedule includes clubs, concerts, writing and teaching. This is her third year teaching piano lessons at the Hamilton Hill Arts Center, where she is she is the coordinator of the music program. Friday 7/18 - Doc Scanlon Trio The Doc Scanlon Trio plays hot swing jazz of the 1920's through the 1940's. Their song list includes the great standards of Gershwin, Berlin & Porter as well as the hot jazz of Django Reinhardt, Fats Waller and Benny Goodman. This is a versatile trio with a big sound, red hot solos and tight three part harmony vocals. Personnel includes Don Young (guitar), Doc Scanlon (string bass) and special guest Scott Black, Jazz cornet player who toured with Leon Redbone for 25 years. http://www.docscanlon.com Thursday 7/24 - Michael Louis Smith Jazz guitarist and composer Michael-Louis Smith’s modern straight- ahead style was influenced by jazz greats such as Wes Montgomery, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Charlie Parker. Based in New York City Michael has been performing at clubs, festivals, colleges and other venues in the Northeast with various ensembles for almost a decade. He has recently released a new album entitled "M.L.S Quartet", a follow up to his last album "Live Bait" with the Hot House Jazz Group, a group he has led for the past seven years. His current ensemble Michael-Louis Smith Trio , featuring will showcase new original compositions as well as jazz classics. http://www.hothousejazzgroup.com Friday 7/25 - Teresa Broadwell Duo Teresa Broadwell, Jazz vocalist and violinist, holds a Bachelor ofMusic from Crane School of Music (SUNY Postdam,) and a MA in JazzStudies from the College of St. Rose, where she directs the Vocal JazzEnsemble and teaches jazz voice and violin. Her horn-like style ofscatting and impeccable jazz phrasing has earned her the notoriety andrespect she has enjoyed from New York audiences as well as the greaterNortheast and Midwest. Broadwell has performed in varied contextsincluding recordings both as leader and side-man, television, radioprograms such as "A Prairie Home Companion," hosted my GarrisonKeillor, and "Dancing on the Air," hosted by Jay Unger and MollyMason, as well as numerous night club, concert and educationalsettings. http://www.teresabroadwell.com/ Thursday 7/31 - Nat Phipps Duo Pianist Nat Phipps is originally from Newark N.J. where he lead apopular local big band that over a period of time included: WayneShorter, Grashon Moncur III, Chris White, Bobby Thomas, ReggieWorkman, Tom MacIntosh and several outstanding local players assideman. In addition, he has accompanied Al Hibler, Betty BebopCarter, Moms Mabley, and spent an extended period of time with LittleJimmy Scott, as well as scores of locally talented singers.
